The Learn Page April 2022

Believe it or not, this is the sunset as viewed from my back door – I feel incredibly grateful to be in this place!

As the sun goes down on this day, I have just completed a six-week training course, to get some Irish qualifications for Oportus. It was a very full-on, informative and demanding six weeks (delivered over Zoom, like most training these days) but also very, very enjoyable and enlightening, and it went really well. This is the fourth course I’ve completed since arriving here just under two years ago; I wasn’t particularly looking to spend this much time in training, especially at my age (I recently turned 58) but have to say it feels like a new lease of life; meeting new people and absorbing masses of valuable new information. I read recently that the human brain continues making connections for the whole of our lifetime – meaning we can go on learning as long as we’re breathing! And I must add that I don’t for a second mean that we have to enrol in courses in order to learn; every day is a new voyage of discovery if we’ll open our eyes, mind and heart to what is all around us.

I took the picture of the first daisy outside the house one day last week, when it was warm, sunny and dry. The next day, it was cold, wet and cloudy. The same daisies looked like the right-hand picture. I was intrigued so started looking at them as the weather changed (which it does regularly here in Connemara!); to my amazement, when the sun was out, the flowers opened right out and spread their petals to soak up the sun, but when it turned cooler – and at night time – they close up their petals again. The sun comes out and they open up again; Nature is wonderful!

It reminds me of how we can be at times – huddled up for protection, or wide open to the light, scared to step out or soaking in learning, adventure, new experiences and relationships.

How are you doing? Are you open to everything that is being presented to you? Or are you folding up your petals to shield you from the unfamiliar? Do you have an idea or dream that needs to see sunlight? Would it help to bounce ideas around? If so, let me know; I’d love to help!

Until next time, let’s keep learning

If you know what you want to do already, and need some help getting the idea out of your head and into a plan, click the link below to join a very special four-week course beginning on Friday, April the 22nd, from 7-9pm on Zoom, which will help you create an action plan with concrete steps so you can start the journey of turning your vision into a reality!
